OpenWar is an alternative Warcraft: Orcs & Humans game engine. So unless you have a legal copy of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans (original MS-DOS version required, won't work with the Mac or Demo versions) OpenWar will be pretty useless to you, since it doesn't come with any graphics or sounds itself.
Since OpenWar is a different game engine, not all things will work 100% the same as they did in the original Warcraft, if you want the original unchanged Warcraft experience, you will still have to use the original game.
OpenWar is not an official Blizzard product, its a Warcraft: Orcs & Humans modification, by Warcraft fans for Warcraft fans. You need a copy of the original Warcraft: Orcs & Humans MS-DOS version to make use of OpenWar. Warcraft is a registered trademark of Blizzard Entertainment.
OpenWar is work-in-progress and not yet playable!
I found something funny in data entries 393 and 394 of the shareware version... Looks like someone forgot to clean the build directory before creating the final package of the game. :)
This is the content in one of the game files located in DATA.WAR.
We are sticking our necks out and committing to a timeline... as far as a spare time project can. ;)
See GitHub milestones for more details.
Good news everyone!
It looks like the Shareware version of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans has all the same content (graphic and sounds) the full game has.
This means that we can offer to download the content for you so you don't have to bother with old CD-ROMs, floppys or backed up installs of the original game.
We have created a Android backend for OpenWar. It has basic rendering and event support. :)
We have added RPM and TGZ packages for RedHat and Slackware based distros.
They are built with alien so please help us test them... :)
If you wish to contribute to the the development process you are more then wellcome!
